Case Western Reserve University junior linebacker Chanan Demery was selected as the University Athletic Association Football Defensive Athlete of the Week, after helping lead the Spartans to a 53-28 win over Saint Vincent College on Saturday night.

Demery picked off a pair of passes to set the tone for a strong defensive effort for the Spartans in the game.  He helped stall the Saint Vincent momentum early in the game with an interception with 11:39 remaining in the first quarter at the Spartans' 14-yard line, and then added his second of the game with 1:40 left in the third quarter, returning the ball 15 yards to the Saint Vincent 15 yard line to eventually setup a key Spartan touchdown.  He finished the game with four tackles (two solo), a forced fumble and a quarterback hurry, while helping the Spartans defense hold the Bearcats to just 26 rushing yards in the game.

Demery is currently tied for the PAC lead with four interceptions and two forced fumbles this season, while averaging 5.8 tackles per game.  This was the second-straight week that he has been named the UAA Football Athlete of the Week for Defense, and the second UAA honor of his career.

The Spartans improved to 4-0 overall and remained tied for the lead in the PAC with a 3-0 conference record following Saturday's win.
