Lynch & Crossey Receive Weekly Honors

Case Western Reserve University senior wide receiver Brendan Lynch was named to the D3football.com Team of the Week and the University Athletic Association Offensive Player of the Week, while freshman safety Patrick Crossey was selected as the Presidents' Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week.

During Saturday's 55-0 win at Grove City College, Lynch caught nine-passes for 222 yards and three touchdowns, matching the school record for receiving yards in a game set by former Spartan receiver Dave Wooley in 1997 against the University of Chicago.  In addition, the nine receptions matched Lynch's career high, while the three touchdowns set a new career-best mark for the senior.  Through two games this season, Lynch has caught 16 passes for 298 yards and five touchdowns.

Lynch becomes the second Spartan this season to be named to the D3football.com Team of the Week and the UAA Athlete of the Week, joining sophomore Justin Phan, who claimed both honors as a punt returner on September 6th.  In addition, he is the second receiver in the program's history to receive D3football.com Team of the Week honors, joining former Spartan Zach Homyk (2010), and the 11th CWRU football player overall to receive the weekly honor.

Making the first start of his collegiate career during Saturday's game against Grove City, Crossey led the Spartans with six total tackles, including five solo.  In addition, he tallied a tackle for a loss, a forced fumble and a pass breakup in the game, helping CWRU record its first shutout since the 2014 season, while holding the Wolverines to just 136 total yards.

Crossey becomes the first Spartan to ever be named the PAC Rookie of the Week, an award that was introduced for the first time this season.

Case Western Reserve, which received votes in the latest D3football.com poll, improved to 2-0 overall and has outscored its first two opponents by a combined mark of 100-17.  The Spartans will be back in action on Saturday, September 24th, when the team travels to Waynesburg University for a 1:30 p.m. kickoff with the Yellow Jackets.
