CLEVELAND – Case Western Reserve University will vacate its 2013 football victory versus Marietta College due to an NCAA infraction.
During the season opener on September 7, 2013, Case Western Reserve unknowingly played an ineligible student-athlete during the fourth quarter of a 37-16 win versus Marietta. The student-athlete's status was discovered internally, and CWRU Head Coach Greg Debeljak immediately self-reported the infraction to university officials.
The case was submitted to the University Athletic Association and NCAA for review. As penalty, Case Western Reserve will vacate its victory from the September 7 contest.
"We maintain the highest level of integrity for our varsity athletics program," said Interim Athletic Director Pat Kennedy. "We understand the infraction, and we agree with the NCAA ruling. Our compliance staff and university officials will work to assure that this type of mistake does not occur again."
