The Case Western Reserve University baseball team finished the pandemic-shortened 2020 season with a 5-5 overall record.

The Spartans ended the campaign playing some of their best baseball in the final three games of their short season, while participating in the Spartan Southern Classic in Lexington, South Carolina. CWRU began its season-ending three-game winning streak with a 4-3 win in 10 innings against Alfred State College on a two-out walk off single by senior first baseman Casey McConihe. The following day, CWRU bested Alfred State again, this time putting up a season-high run total in a 13-2 win. The Spartans' season would come to an end the following day due to the pandemic, shortly CWRU claimed a 12-3 victory against Roger Williams.

The Spartans opened their season with a three-game series at Earlham College, dropping the first two contests (each by a 5-4 score), before bouncing back for a 7-4 win behind the first career win for first-year pitcher Benjamin Gorski and the first career save for first-year pitcher Sankalp Doshi. Junior infielder Jacob Lott and sophomore outfielder Cole Jarrett each homered in the game, with Jarrett leading off the game with a home run for the second time in the series.

CWRU went on to defeat 10th-ranked Wooster on the road the following weekend, behind a complete-game win from sophomore Nick Denove and a two home run game from junior catcher Jake Ryan. Denove came an out away from a shutout, and struck out a career-high nine batters in the game, later being named the Honorable Mention NCBWA Division III Pitcher of the Week. First-year infielder Trey Haley added his first career home run in the victory.

The Spartans then headed to South Carolina for the Spartan Southern Classic, suffering three-straight losses, before ending their season with three-consecutive wins to finish at .500 for the campaign.

Following the season, five Spartans were named to the All-University Athletic Association Team – Denove, Gorski, Jarrett, McConihe and Ryan. Gorski, who played second base in addition to pitching, was one of just two first-year players in the conference to earn All-UAA selection.

Offensively, the Spartans batted .267 as a team during the season, while scoring 5.5 runs per game. Ryan paced the team with a .386 batting average, with eight of his 17 hits during the season going for extra bases. He paced the team or tied for the team lead in runs (nine), hits, doubles (three), triples (one), home runs (four), RBIs (eight) and slugging percentage (.773). Ryan hit safely in all 10 games during the year, and has a 17-game hitting streak dating back to the end of the 2019 campaign. McConihe added a .361 batting average and ended the year on a nine-game hitting streak, while senior outfielder Samuel Neal hit .300 with three stolen bases. Other Spartans who had strong starts to the season at the plate included Gorski (.294, two SBs), Jarrett (.290, nine runs, two HRs, eight RBIs, three SBs) and Lott (.268, one home run).

The CWRU pitching staff notched a team ERA of 3.02 during the year and held opponents to a .227 batting average. Denove went 1-0 with a 1.66 ERA though his three starts, while striking out 22 and walking just three in 21.2 innings of work. Gorski went 1-0 with a 2.08 ERA and 15 strikeouts in 13 innings over a pair of starts, and Doshi finished the campaign 1-1 with a 2.45 ERA and one save.

In addition to their success on the field, a number of Spartans were recognized for their academic achievements during the year. Denove was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District team, and was also one of 10 players to receive Spring UAA All-Academic Recognition, along with junior Tre Armstrong, sophomore Willem Bouma, Jarrett, senior Scott Kutschke, senior Noah Mehrle, junior Sam Nalli, senior Paul Slota, sophomore Keaton Stankowski and junior Benjamin Stawicki.
