  • Denove Named to CoSIDA Academic All-District Team

    Case Western Reserve University sophomore left-handed pitcher Nick Denove (Naples, Fla. / Barron Collier) was named to the 2020 Academic All-District Baseball Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America, based on his success both on the field and in the classroom during his collegiate career.

    The Case Western Reserve University baseball senior class of 2020 – pitcher Scott Kutschke, first baseman Casey McConihe, outfielder Noah Mehrle, outfielder Samuel Neal and pitcher Paul Slota - was about as different a group of individuals as you could find. They were each different players with different roles on the team and playing styles. Their personalities were all different. Even their majors were different. However, they came together through their love of baseball to form a cohesive unit that led the team to a 72-46 overall record, a UAA Championship in 2018, and an NCAA Tournament berth in 2019.

    Five members of the Case Western Reserve University baseball team – sophomore pitcher Nick Denove, first-year infielder/ pitcher Benjamin Gorski, sophomore outfielder Cole Jarrett, senior infielder Casey McConihe and junior catcher Jake Ryan – were named to the All-University Athletic Association Team, as announced by the league on Wednesday.

    Case Western Reserve University senior Paul Slota struck out Roger Williams University’s Joey Gulino to secure a 12-3 win for Spartans over the Hawks at the Spartan Southern Classic in Lexington, South Carolina on Thursday. Just minutes later, the NCAA announced the cancellation of their spring championships due to the ongoing pandemic, and the Spartans’ 2020 season came to a close.

    Case Western Reserve University junior Tony Smodilla pitched seven strong innings to earn the first win of his collegiate career, and the Spartans’ offense registered season highs in hits and runs, as CWRU rolled to a 13-2 win over Alfred State at the Spartan Southern Classic in Lexington, South Carolina on Wednesday.
  • McConihe’s Walk-Off Single Gives Spartans a Split on Monday

    Case Western Reserve University senior first baseman Casey McConihe drove in the game-winning run with a two-out single in the bottom of the 10th inning against Alfred State College, giving the Spartans’ a 4-3 win over the Pioneers on Monday afternoon. Earlier in the day, the Spartans dropped a 5-0 contest against Roger Williams College at the Spartan Southern Classic at Lexington County Baseball Stadium in Lexington, South Carolina.

    Case Western Reserve University junior catcher Jake Ryan slugged a pair of solo home runs and sophomore Nick Denove struck out a career-high nine batters in a complete-game effort, as the Spartans topped the 10th-ranked College of Wooster 3-1 at Art Murray Field in Wooster, Ohio on Sunday afternoon.
  • Baseball Makes Changes to Weekend Schedule against #10 Wooster & #25 W&J

    The Case Western Reserve University baseball team has made a number of changes to its schedule this weekend to accommodate poor weather in the area over the next few days. The Spartans’ doubleheader at no. 25 Washington and Jefferson, originally scheduled for Saturday, will now be played on Monday, March 2 starting at 3:00 p.m. Sunday’s single game against the 10th-ranked College of Wooster, originally scheduled to be played at home, has been moved to Wooster, Ohio, and will start at 1:00 p.m.

  • Baseball to Open 2020 with Three Games at Earlham this Weekend

    The Case Western Reserve University baseball team will get its 2020 season underway this weekend, when the Spartans travel to Richmond, Indiana to take on Earlham College in a three-game series. The two teams will begin the weekend with a single game on Saturday, February 22 at 3:00 p.m., to be followed by a doubleheader starting at noon on Sunday, February 23.
