Baseball to Discover its Postseason Fate via NCAA Selection Show on Monday at Noon

The Case Western Reserve University baseball team will find out if it has received a bid to the NCAA Division III Championship field, when tournament selections, regional sites and opening round matchups are announced on Monday, May 13th at noon.

For the first time ever, the Division III baseball tournament field will be revealed via a live selection show on NCAA.com.  In previous years, the selections had been released overnight.  The change coincides with a new format to the tournament, which features a regional round the weekend of May 17-19, followed by a super regional round on May 24-25.

Monday's selection show will reveal the 16 regional sites, which includes 13 sites of four teams in a double-elimination tournament, and three sites of two teams playing a best-of-five series.  Teams that advance through the regional will then partake in a best-of three super regional series at one of eight two-team sites across the country, for the right to be one of the eight teams that advances to the NCAA Division III Finals in Cedar Rapids, Iowa from May 31 through June 5.

CWRU is hoping to receive one of the two Pool B bids to the tournament (awarded to teams that are either independent or play in a conference without an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament) or one of the 16 Pool C at large bids.

The Spartans ended the 2019 regular season with an overall winning percentage of 22-13.  The team's resume is strengthened further by an 11-6 record against teams currently ranked regionally (including head-to-head wins against Heidelberg, Baldwin Wallace and Wooster in-region), and strength of schedule that ranks third in Division III.

A release on the results of the selection show will be posted to athletics.case.edu on Monday afternoon.
