The Case Western Reserve University baseball team wrapped up its four-game University Athletic Association series on Sunday afternoon with a 17-4 win over Brandeis University in seven innings at Nobby's Ballpark in Cleveland, Ohio.

With the win, the Spartans split the series with the Judges and improved to 22-13 overall for the season with a 7-7 league record.  Brandeis dropped to 15-19 on the year with the loss, including a 3-13 UAA record.

The Spartans bats broke out at the plate on Sunday with the team collecting 18 hits in the contest.  Six different Spartans had multiple-hit games, led by senior third baseman Jacob Kucia who went four-for-five with two triples, a stolen base, a two runs scored and an RBI.  Senior second baseman Rocco Maue added a three-for-five day at the plate with a triple, four RBIs and two runs scored, and sophomore outfielder Jake Ryan drove in three runs and scored two, while going three-for-four with a double.

Senior outfielder Jacob Pestel finished the game two-for-three with three RBIs, two walks, two stolen bases and two runs scored, and freshman designated hitter Mac Camardo and sophomore shortstop Jacob Lott each registered a pair of hits with two RBIs.  The hits and RBIs were the first of Camardo's career.

Junior left-handed pitcher Casey McConihe started for the Spartans and earned the win, improving to 2-2 on the year.  He allowed four runs on nine hits and a walk with one strikeout over five innings of work.

The Spartans scored a run in the first inning off Brandeis' starter Cam Roberts, but the Judges answered back with two in the top of the second to take a one-run lead.  However, the Spartans put up eight runs in the bottom of the second inning, as CWRU sent 13 men to the plate in the inning, with the first eight each reaching base.

Brandeis scored single runs in the third and fifth innings, but CWRU piled on the runs with a five run fourth and a three-run bottom of the sixth.  Junior right-handed pitcher Paul Slota pitched the final two innings of the game, striking out four batters and allowing just one hit, to close out the game, which was shortened by virtue of the 10-run rule.

Roberts took the loss for Brandeis, dropping to 3-3 on the season.

The Spartans will complete their regular season on Tuesday, April 30th at 3:00 p.m., when the team plays host to John Carroll University at Nobby's Ballpark.
