The Case Western Reserve University baseball team will make its annual voyage south for Spring Break next week, when the team travels to Georgia and South Carolina for a stretch of nine games in eight days from Sunday, March 10th through Sunday, March 17th.
The Spartans are scheduled to play two games at Oglethorpe University in Atlanta, Georgia on Sunday, March 10th at 2:00 p.m. and Monday, March 11th at 1:00 p.m. CWRU will then travel to Lexington, South Carolina for the Spartan Southern Classic at Lexington County Stadium, with four games against Roger Williams College (a doubleheader on Tuesday, March 12th followed by single games on Wednesday, March 13th and Thursday, March 14th, all at 2:00 p.m.), two games against Western New England University (Friday, March 15th at 2:00 p.m. and Saturday, March 16th at 1:00 p.m.), and one contest against Trinity College (Sunday, March 17th at 10:00 a.m.).

The Spartans will enter the trip with a 2-3 overall record, after picking up a doubleheader sweep over Allegheny College with an 11-4 win in the early game and a 4-3 victory in the late contest. The Spartans are batting .225 as a team this season and averaging 4.4 runs per game, while the pitching staff has a 2.68 earned run average and has held opponents to a .199 batting average.
Sophomore shortstop Jacob Lott is leading the team with a .333 batting average, while senior second baseman Rocco Maue is hitting .313 with four runs scored and three stolen bases. Senior catcher Tyler Wypiszenski has added a .263 average with two extra base hits and three RBIs. Senior Mark Gross (0-1, 5.40 ERA), freshman Nick Denove (0-1, 4.22 ERA) and sophomore Matt Levine (0-0, 2.03 ERA) have all made starts for the Spartans this year, while freshman Willem Bouma (1-0, 0.00 ERA), junior Scott Kutschke (1-0, 0.00 ERA) and senior Corey Brown (0-0, 3.00 ERA, one save) have each thrown at least three innings out of the bullpen.
Oglethorpe is 4-7 overall this season, including a 4-3 record at home, and will play three more games this week before facing the Spartans next Sunday and Monday. The Stormy Petrels are hitting .364 overall and scoring 7.5 runs per game, while pitching to an 8.53 ERA with a .285 opponents' batting average.
Roger Williams is scheduled to open its season during the coming week with a game at the University of Mary Washington on Friday, and contests at North Carolina Wesleyan College on Saturday and Sunday. The Hawks finished the 2018 season with an overall record of 19-21.
Western New England opened its season on Sunday with a 6-5 loss at Westfield State, and has a single game at Springfield and a home doubleheader against Brandeis scheduled, prior to facing the Spartans in Lexington. The Golden Bears went 32-15 last season, and were ranked 32nd in the Collegiate Baseball Preseason Poll, and received votes in the latest D3baseball.com Top-25.
Trinity finished the 2018 season with an overall record of 18-15. The Bantams will open their 2019 campaign on Saturday at home against Southern Maine, and also has home games scheduled against Brockport and MIT, and will face Roger Williams in Lexington, prior to taking on the Spartans next Sunday.
