Maue Receives Pair of Weekly Honors; Spartans Jump into D3baseball.com Top-25

Case Western Reserve University junior Rocco Maue was named the second baseman on the D3baseball.com Team of the Week and selected as the University Athletic Association Hitter of the Week, following his outstanding performance over the final five games of the Spartan Southern Classic in Lexington, South Carolina last week.

Maue helped the team complete a perfect spring trip, batting .450 with five home runs and 11 runs batted in over the team's final five games of the trip.  Playing at the Lexington County Baseball Stadium, Maue collected nine hits in 20 at-bats, scored seven runs, walked three times and stole a pair of bases, while slugging 1.200 with an on base percentage of .542.  He started all five games during the week as the team's second hitter and second baseman, and committed just one error for a .976 fielding percentage.

Highlights from his week included a five-for-six performance against Roger Williams on Tuesday, during which he hit three home runs with eight runs batted in, three runs scored and a stolen base, en route to a 12-1 win.  He also went one-for-four with a home run and two RBIs in an 8-1 win over Roger Williams the previous day, and one-of-for-four with an inside-the-park home run in a 3-1 victory over Trinity College on Sunday.

Maue leads all CWRU players this season with a .467 average, 15 runs scored, five home runs, four doubles, 13 RBIs, and eight stolen bases on as many attempts, while notching a .985 fielding percentage, and currently has a seven-game hitting streak.  This was the first time over his career that Maue has earned each of the two honors.

In addition, the Spartans, who have opened the season with a 10-1 record and have won eight-straight games, climbed into the D3baseball.com Top-25 for the first time this season.  After receiving votes in last week's poll, CWRU made its debut in the top-25 on Tuesday, checking in at 18th in the national rankings.  It was the first time the team has been ranked in the poll since the fourth weekly poll of the 2015 campaign, when the squad was ranked 15th.

Case Western Reserve is scheduled to resume its season on Saturday, March 24th with a home-opening doubleheader against Ohio Wesleyan University starting at 12:00 p.m. at Nobby's Ballpark.
