WOOSTER, OH - The Case Western Reserve baseball team dropped a pair of games at College of Wooster, 5-3 and 3-0.
The Spartans fell behind 5-0 in the opening game before scoring twice in the sixth inning. Senior third baseman Andrew Gronski (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson) hit his third home run of the season, a solo shot, with one out. The next batter, senior second baseman Kerrigan Cain (Hartville, Ohio/Archbishop Hoban) was hit by a pitch and scored on a double down the left field line by senior designated hitter Jordan Swisher (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Sutherland).
CWRU added its final run in the eighth inning when sophomore centerfielder Aaron Cain (Hartville, Ohio/Archbishop Hoban) hit a two-out, bases-loaded single to score sophomore leftfielder Josh Neal (Gaithersburg, Md./St. John's College).
Neal, Gronksi, and senior first baseman Rob Winemiller (Twinsburg, Ohio/University School) each recorded two hits to lead the Spartans' 10-hit effort.
Senior Kevin Johnstone (Placentia, Calif./Valencia) took the loss in spite of another solid pitching effort, throwing a complete game and allowing just two earned runs, while striking out five.
In the second game of the doubleheader, Winemiller contributed two of the team's six hits. Over the last four games, he is batting .733 (11-for-15).
The Spartans (22-14) finish the season tomorrow at Nobby's Ball Park with a tripleheader of sorts against local rival John Carroll. At 1 p.m. will be the completion of the game played on Apr. 6 with CWRU leading 6-5 in the top of the seventh inning of a scheduled seven-inning contest. Then the teams will play a doubleheader.
