GREENCASTLE, IN - The Case Western Reserve baseball team scored the winning run in the ninth inning in both a 6-5 win over UAA rival Washington University and a 5-4 victory over DePauw University.

Senior first baseman Rob Winemiller (Twinsburg, Ohio/University School) finished the day 7-for-8 with two runs scored, and one run batted in.

The Spartans took a 2-0 lead over the Bears in the second inning. Senior designated hitter Jordan Swisher (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Sutherland) and Winemiller opened with back-to-back singles. Sophomore centerfielder Aaron Cain (Hartville, Ohio/Archbishop Hoban) reached on a fielder's choice and Swisher scored on a throwing error. With two outs, senior leftfielder Will Meador (Columbus, Ohio/Worthington Kilbourne) singled to score Cain.

Washington scored five times in the third inning and the lead remained 5-2 until the sixth inning when the Spartans tied the game with three runs. Senior second baseman Kerrigan Cain (Hartville, Ohio/Archbishop Hoban) walked and one out later, Winemiller singled, and Aaron Cain walked to load the bases.

Sophomore catcher Eric Eldred (Tecumseh, Mich./Tecumseh) hit a sacrifice fly to score Kerrigan Cain and then back-to-back run-scoring singles by Meador and freshman shortstop Danny Souza (Hollister, Calif./Palma) evened the score 5-5.

With one out, senior third baseman Andrew Gronski (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson) singled and moved to second on an infield single by Kerrigan Cain. Swisher singled to left field and Gronski scored the winning run on an error by the leftfielder.

Winemiller went 4-for-4 with a run scored, Meador went 3-for-4 with two runs batted in, and Swisher finished with two hits and one run scored.

The victory gave the Spartans a split of the season series after each team won once in the UAA Baseball Championship and the Bears earned a 3-1 rain-shortened, five-inning victory yesterday.

Against the Tigers, CWRU led 4-1 through 3 1/2 innings. With two outs in the first inning, walked, moved to third on a double by Swisher, and scored on a single by Aaron Cain.

The Spartans scored twice more in the third inning. Gronski singled and stole second base. Kerrigan Cain singled and that was followed by consecutive RBI singles from Swisher and Winemiller.

CWRU added an unearned run in the fourth inning when sophomore rightfielder Josh Neal (Gaithersburg, Md./St. John's College) reached on an error with two outs and scored on a single by Kerrigan Cain.

The Tigers scored a single run in the fourth, fifth, and seventh inning to tie the score 4-4.

In the ninth inning, Winemiller singled with one out and moved to third on a single by Aaron Cain. Edlred walked and then sophomore rightfielder Antonio Damiano (Naples, Fla./Gulf Coast) was hit by a pitch to score Winemiller.
