CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Case Western Reserve University sophomore shortstop Matt Keen (Tallmadge, Ohio/Tallmadge) has been selected to the Capital One Academic All-District IV baseball team, announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Monday, May 9.
Keen, an accounting major with a 3.45 grade point average, earns second-team honors in his first year of eligibility (student-athletes must be of sophomore status or higher to earn the award).
The shortstop has been one of the top offensive threats this season for the record-breaking Spartan baseball team. He has started all 43 games and batted .384 with 34 runs batted-in, 14 doubles, four triples and a nation-leading 64 runs scored. Keen has also struck out only seven times in 177 official at-bats and is a perfect 11-of-11 in stolen base attempts.
Keen earned University Athletic Association All-Academic honors earlier this spring and was selected to the conference championship all-tournament team.
The Spartans finished the regular season with a school-record 30 wins (30-13 overall). Currently ranked third in the Mideast Region, Case is looking to receive a Pool B or Pool C bid into the NCAA Championship Tournament. The field is expected to be announced on May 15.
