Hora Throws Gem, Frey Goes 4-For-4 as Spartan Baseball Shuts out Muskingum

NEW CONCORD, Ohio – Sophomore Jamie Hora (Twinsburg, OH/Twinsburg) threw seven shutout innings with seven strikeouts and freshman second baseman Andrew Frey (Mentor, OH/Mentor) went 4-for-4 at the plate as the Case Western Reserve University baseball team blanked Muskingum University, 7-0, on Sunday, April 10 at Mose Morehead Field. The Spartans improve to 22-11 this season and have won eight of nine.

Hora allowed just six hits and did not walk a batter as he improved to 5-3 for the season.

The Spartans collected 15 hits with five batters posting multi-hit efforts.

Case got on the board in the first inning when sophomore shortstop Matt Keen (Tallmadge, OH/Tallmadge) doubled to center to plate junior centerfielder Matt Richards (San Juan Capistrano, CA/San Clemente).

The game remained a pitcher's duel until the fifth when the Spartans erupted for five runs. Richards got the ball rolling with an RBI single that scored Frey. Senior third baseman Chad Mullins (Fredericksburg, OH/Waynedale) then added to his nation-leading RBI total (56) with a single that plated Richards. Junior right fielder Sam Alexander (Alexandria, VA/T.C. Williams) also hit an RBI single and sophomore first baseman Brett Ossola (Potomac, MD/Bullis School) hit an RBI double.

The Spartans are back in action on Tuesday, April 12 at local-rival John Carroll University. The opening pitch is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
