PITTSFORD, N.Y. – Case Western Reserve University baseball sophomore pitcher Jamie Hora (Twinsburg, OH/Twinsburg) and softball junior designated player/first baseman Lauren Wolz (Ashburn, VA/Stone Bridge) have each been selected as University Athletic Association Athletes of the Week, announced the league office on Monday, April 11.
Hora earns the award for the second time this season. He posted a 2-0 record with a 0.64 earned run average during a 3-1 week for the Spartans. In 14 innings, Hora allowed just one earned run on 11 hits and one walk while striking out 10. On Sunday versus Muskingum University, he threw seven shutout innings with seven strikeouts. For the season, the southpaw is 5-3 with a 4.33 ERA in a team-high 54.0 innings pitched.
The baseball team is 22-11 and has won eight of their last nine heading into a Tuesday, April 12 game at John Carroll University at 4:00 p.m. in University Heights.
Wolz becomes the first CWRU softball player to earn the award this season. She batted .478 (11-of-23) with four homeruns and 10 RBI during a 6-0 week for the Spartans. Wolz also doubled twice and scored six runs as the Spartans stretched their win streak to eight games. During Thursday's sweep of John Carroll University, Wolz was a combined 7-for-8 with two homers and six RBI. Wolz's recent hot streak has improved her batting average to a team-best .394. She also leads the squad with six homers and 35 RBI.
The Spartans (14-20 overall) are set to return to action at home on Thursday, April 14 with a make-up doubleheader versus LaRoche College (PA) at 3:30 p.m.
