PUERTO RICO - The No. 12 Case Western Reserve University women's tennis team started it's spring break trip with a 9-0 victory over the University of Puerto Rico Mayaguez.
Senior Marianne Bonanno (Clayton, Ohio/Northmont) and junior Surya Khadilkar (Broadview Heights, Ohio/Hawken School) earned an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles. The No. 2 doubles team of junior Sara Zargham (Torrance, Calif./California Academy of Math and Science) and freshman Nithya Kanagasegar (Crossville, Tenn./Cumberland County) won 8-1 at No. 2 doubles. The combination of junior Michelle Djohan (Westlake, Ohio/Westlake) and sophomore Sarah Berchuck (Dallas, Texas/Baylor School & Suffield Academy) won 8-2 at No. 3 doubles.
The Spartans captured all six singles matches with Kanagasegar winning 6-7, 6-2, 10-5 at No. 1 singles. Bonanno won 6-2, 6-3 and Zargham winning by nearly the same score, 6-3, 6-4 at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, respectively. Also securing points were Khadilkar with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 4, Djohan with a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles, and Berchuck who took No. 6 singles, 6-4, 6-0.
The Spartans will continue spring break matches in Puerto Rico tomorrow Match 9 through Wednesday, March 11.
