Spartan Women Sweep Second Match in Puerto Rico

PUERTO RICO - The No. 12 Case Western Reserve University women's tennis team continued it's spring break trip with it's 9-0 victory which came against the University of Puerto Rico Rio Piedras.

The Spartans swept singles with 8-0 victories across the board.

Senior Marianne Bonanno (Clayton, Ohio/Northmont) and junior Surya Khadilkar (Broadview Heights, Ohio/Hawken School) won at No. 1 doubles. The No. 2 doubles team of junior Sara Zargham (Torrance, Calif./California Academy of Math and Science) and freshman Nithya Kanagasegar (Crossville, Tenn./Cumberland County) won at No. 2 and the combination of junior Michelle Djohan (Westlake, Ohio/Westlake) and sophomore Sarah Berchuck (Dallas, Texas/Baylor School & Suffield Academy) won at No. 3. 

The Spartans captured all six singles matches in straight sets. Kanagasegar won 6-1, 7-5 at No. 1 singles, Bonanno won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2 and Zargham won at No. 3, 6-4, 6-1. Also securing points were Khadilkar at No. 4 and Djohan at No. 5 with matching scores of 6-0, 6-0. Berchuck defeated her opponent at No. 6 doubles 6-2, 6-0.

The Spartans will continue spring break matches in Puerto Rico Wednesday, March 11.
