Wennerberg vs. Mestha - CWRU Athlete of the Decade Finals Set!

After eight weeks of voting for the Case Western Reserve University Athlete of the Decade, the final two competitors, who will face off for the title next week, have been decided. Former CWRU softball player Annie Wennerberg and former swimmer Suhan Mestha each advanced through the semifinal round, and will meet next week in the finals of the tournament.

The updated bracket is now available, to see the path each finalist took to reach the title match.

Wennerberg secured her spot in the finals by defeating former men's basketball player Dane McLoughlin in the semifinals. Wennerberg locked up 54.3% of the 433 total votes cast earlier in the week. Read more about the matchup here.

A tournament-high 1,397 votes were cast in the second semifinal match, 65.7% of which went to Mestha to allow her to advance against former women's basketball player and track & field team member Erin Hollinger. Read more about the matchup here.

Voting for the championship match will be held throughout next week, starting Monday afternoon and continuing through Friday. The winner of the Athlete of the Decade Tournament will be announced on athletics.case.edu on Monday, October 26.
