Voting Results from Week 6 of the CWRU Athlete of the Decade Contest

Chad Mullins, Erin Hollinger, Suhan Mestha and Nithya Kanagasegar

Over the course of September and October, athletics.case.edu will be holding a tournament to decide the Case Western Reserve University Athlete of the Decade. The full bracket, updated through halfway through the second round, can be viewed here.

The final four berths into the quarterfinals were decided during this week's matches, and we have just eight Spartans remaining in the search to find the Athlete of the Decade. Voting results from this week are below: 

Second-Round Match #5
Former D3baseball.com National Player of the Year Chad Mullins earned a spot in the quarterfinals, after collecting 59.4% of the vote in a narrow victory against former volleyball player Tricia McCutchan. 

Second Round Match #6
Erin Hollinger, an All-American track & field team member and all-region women's basketball player, earned a spot in the quarterfinals with 83.2% of the vote against former men's soccer player Chris Cvecko. Mullins and Hollinger will meet in the quarterfinals next week. 

Second-Round Match #7
Suhan Mestha, a multiple-time All-American for the CWRU women's swimming and diving team advanced to the quarterfinals with 76.5% of the votes cast against former wrestler Isaac Dukes.

Second-Round Match #8
In the final match of the week, former CWRU women's tennis player Nithya Kanagasegar, the first All-American in program history, advanced to the quarterfinals, collecting 55.1% of votes cast against former women's soccer player Kendra Simmons. Mestha and Kanagasegar will face off in the quarterfinals next week.

 

Up Next

With the second round complete, the field for the quarterfinals of the tournament is now set. Each of the eight quarterfinalists have at least one All-America honor on their resume, and they represent nine different teams at CWRU. Three men and five women are among the athletes to move onto the next round. Thursday, October 8 – Suhan Mestha (women's swimming & diving) vs. Nithya Kanagasegar (women's tennis)
