Over the course of the next two months, athletics.case.edu will be holding a tournament to decide the Case Western Reserve University Athlete of the Decade. The full bracket can be viewed here.
Today's first round match features former women's cross country and track & field team member Justine Jeroski against former women's tennis player Nithya Kanagasegar. Voting will begin at noon on Wednesday, and continue through 11:59 a.m. on Thursday.
First-Round Match #15 - Justine Jeroski vs. Nithya Kanagasegar
Justine Jeroski ('11) was a three-time All-American for the women's cross country team, placing 11th at the NCAA Championships her senior year, 30th her junior season, and 28th as a sophomore. She also garnered three All-UAA First Team finishes at the conference championship meets over her career. She was named the UAA Most Outstanding Performer in Running Events at the 2009 Indoor Championships, after winning conference titles in both the 3,000-meter run and 5,000-meter run, and is a five-time All-UAA finisher over her track & field career.
Nithya Kanagasegar ('18) became the first All-American in the history of the CWRU women's tennis program when she advanced to the quarterfinals of the doubles draw at the 2018 NCAA Division III Championships. She was also the first player in program history to be named the UAA Most Valuable Player, earning the honor in 2016. Nithya was named to the All-UAA team three times for her play at singles and twice for her doubles efforts. She ended her career as the program's all-time leader in doubles wins with a 76-32 career record, and was third in school history with a 56-48 singles mark. Read more about Nithya in her online bio.
Our final first-round match of the tournament will feature former baseball player Chad Mullins and former men's tennis player Eric Klawitter. Results from this week's matches will be announced on athletics.case.edu on Friday afternoon.
