Over the course of the next two months, athletics.case.edu will be holding a tournament to decide the Case Western Reserve University Athlete of the Decade. The full bracket can be viewed here.
The final week of first round voting starts today, as former track & field team member Cassandra Laios will face former women's basketball player Kara Hageman. Voting will start at noon on Monday, and continue through 11:59 a.m. on Tuesday.
First-Round Match #13 - Cassandra Laios vs. Kara Hageman
Cassandra Laios ('19) capped off an outstanding career as a Spartan with a National Championship in the hammer throw at the 2019 NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships. The national title was one of three all-America honors she claimed during her senior year, also securing the award in the outdoor discus and the indoor weight throw. Laios was selected as the USTFCCCA Great Lakes Region Field Athlete of the Year in 2019, and was been named the UAA Most Outstanding Performer in Field Events four times over her career, including both the indoor and outdoor campaigns in 2019. Kara Hageman ('19) earned a spot in the tournament with win over former CWRU baseball player Andrew Gronski in the play-in round. She is a two-time All-UAA First Team honoree, and ended her career with 1,425 total points. She also secured All-Region honors following her junior season, during which, she set a school record with 502 points during the campaign, and scored a program-best 41 points in a game against Washington University (Mo.). The first round of the tournament will continue on Tuesday, as former men's tennis player CJ Krimbill will face former track & field team member Nate Wahner.
