Case Western Reserve University's student-athlete leadership academy, "The Program," kicked off its five-session curriculum on Tuesday afternoon, with over 45 student-athlete leaders representing each varsity program in attendance.
CWRU Director of Athletics Amy Backus served as the guest speaker for the opening session, giving a presentation on communication styles.
Attendees then participated in an exercise designed to demonstrate the importance of communication tone and style, where participants had to guide a blindfolded partner through an obstacle course. After the exercise, the group talked about the pitfalls of over-communicating and under-communicating as well as being overly positive or overly negative when communicating.

The next session of "The Program" will be on Monday, December 9th, with Shannon French, a CWRU Professor of Ethics, serving as the guest speaker. Other scheduled dates for the 2019-20 year are January 20th, February 4th and March 3rd.
