Case Western Reserve University sophomore Connor Nally, a forward on the men’s basketball team, and freshman Emily Todd, a guard on the women’s basketball team, have been named the Spartan Club Athletes of the Week for their performances this past weekend.
Nally matched a program record with seven made three pointers against 20th-ranked Emory University on Sunday. Nally shot seven-for-10 overall (all from long range) for a game-high 22 points, and added three rebounds over 23 minutes of action in the 91-59 loss. The seven three-pointers matched the program record set by former Spartan Dane McLoughlin, also against Emory, on February 15, 2013. Nally also led the team with 12 points on a three-for-six shooting performance (again, all from long range) and added two rebounds and an assist in a 90-71 loss at Rochester on Friday. Overall for the weekend, he went 10-for-16 (62.5%) from three-point range and averaged 17.0 points per contest. For the season, Nally is second on the team with 10.8 points per contest, shooting 47.6% from long range and collecting 3.9 rebounds per game. The Spartans are 7-7 overall with a 1-2 University Athletic Association record.
Todd averaged a team-leading 13.5 points during a pair of University Athletic Association games last weekend. Todd shot 10-of-30 (33.3%) overall and five-of-19 (26.3%) from three-point range, while adding 1.5 rebounds per game. She came off the bench during the team’s 84-41 loss to seventh-ranked Rochester on Friday, scoring 18 points on a seven-for-17 shooting performance (including four-of-12 on three-point tries), and adding three rebounds during her 29 minutes of action. Todd added nine points and an assist on three-of-13 overall shooting (one-of-seven from behind the three-point line) in a 64-47 loss at Emory on Sunday. Todd is third among Spartan players this year with 9.2 points per game, as the Spartans fell to 3-10 overall and to 0-3 in the UAA with the two losses.
The Spartan Club Athletes of the Week are selected by the CWRU Department of Athletics each Monday, based on their performance during the previous week of competition.
Honorable Mention: Andrew Hoover (wrestling) went 4-1 during this past week, as he helped the Spartans post a 2-1 record. During the 33-14 win over Thiel College on Wednesday, Hoover earned a 9-0 major decision win over Vincent Mion. He followed that with another major decision victory, defeating Lourdes University’s Riley Heater (11-2). On Saturday at the 2018 Si Ostrach Meet, Hoover picked up two more wins, as he pinned John Carroll’s Iain Whitis (1:57) and then earned a 7-0 decision over Brockport’s Wesley Woodworth. For the season, Hoover has an overall record of 12-8 (.600), including three pins.
