Cabrera Win’s DIII Title as Spartan Women Place Fourth at All-Ohio
CEDARVILLE, Ohio – Senior Natalia Cabrera (Shaker Heights, Ohio/Shaker Heights) placed first of 150 Division III runners as the Case Western Reserve University women's cross country team finished fourth of 22 DIII teams competing on a cold and rainy Friday afternoon at the All-Ohio Intercollegiate Championship at Elvin R. King Cross Country Course.
Oberlin College won the team title with 64 points, while Ohio Northern University (80) and John Carroll University (124) placed second and third, respectively. Case (150) had won the previous five All-Ohio titles.
Cabrera's 5k time of 18:26.88 was also good for 11th place out of the 311 competitors from Divisions I, II and III and NAIA.
Junior Corin Bowen (Midland, Mich./Bullock Creek) was second for the Spartans with a ninth-place DIII time of 19:01.06. Freshman Erica Bauerbach (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles North) crossed the line third in 37th place (19:34.96) and sophomore Brooke Simpson (Solon, Ohio/Solon) was right behind in 38th (19:37.90). Freshman Kristen Ruckstuhl (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor) rounded out the Spartan scoring in 65th place (20:19.97).
The Spartans take a week off from competition and are back on the course on Saturday, October 15 for the Inter-Regional Rumble at Oberlin College. Action begins at 11:00 a.m.
