Spartan Cross Country and Track & Field Student-Athletes Clean Up Local Beaches

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Taking advantage of a glorious early fall afternoon, the Case Western Reserve University men's and women's track & field and cross country teams took to the beaches of Edgewater Park and Euclid Beach Park to beautify the waterline as part of the team's fall community service project.

Coordinated with Ms. Carol Ward of the Cleveland Lakefront State Park office, the Spartans showed up in force with more than 30 student-athletes participating. Splitting up between the two beaches, the student-athletes gathered almost 15 garbage bags full of trash.

"Our student-athletes know how fortunate they are to be at Case Western Reserve University, preparing for successful futures and having a great collegiate experience," expressed fifth-year Head Coach Steve Rubin. "The team just wanted an opportunity to contribute positively to the local community and give something back. Our team captains initiated and coordinated this entire project, and they are truly great young men and women."
