Spartan Men Third, Women 10th at PSU-Behrend Invitational
ERIE, Pa. – Select members of the Case Western Reserve University men's and women's cross country teams competed at the 2010 Penn State Behrend University Invitational on Saturday, September 18. Most of the Spartans' starting runners did not compete, but the men were able to place third of 18 teams while the women were 10th.
The Spartan men totaled 105 points to finish behind University of Mount Union with 23 points and Buffalo State University (NY) with 99. PSU-Behrend had 118 team points and Thiel College (PA) rounded out the top five with 126.
Sophomore Chris Wade (Berea, OH/Berea) led the way with a ninth-place finish in a time of 27:33.40. Senior Ethan Kleinbaum (Rutherford, NJ/Bergen) was 21st in 28:12.7, junior Peter Walls (Anchorage, AK/Grace Christian) was 22nd in 28:13.10, and sophomore Paul Curtiss (Newport Beach, CA/Newport Harbor) rounded out the Case scoring in 26th place at 28:35.50. Junior Paul Zackowski (Phoenix, AZ/Valley Christian) was fifth for the Spartans in 27th place (28:36.20).
The Spartan women totaled 267 points. Mount Union won the team title with 38 points and was followed in the top five by PSU-Behrend with 51 points, Defiance College at 141, Westminster College (PA) with 159 and Lake Erie College at 162.
Sophomore Alyssa Harker (Mentor, OH/Mentor) had Case's top finish in 27th place with a time of 21:59.40. Senior Alyssa Wozniak (Allison Park, PA/Deer Lakes) was 40th in 22:24.40, sophomore Megan Milne (Naperville, IL/Naperville North) was 60th in 23:04.50, and sophomore Kayla Devault (Greensburg, PA/Greater Latrobe) rounded out the scoring in 66th place with a time of 23:39.60.
Case's top runners will be back in action on Saturday, September 25 at the Carnegie Mellon University (PA) Pre-Regional Meet in Pittsburgh. The event is set to begin at 10:30 a.m. and will feature some of the top teams from throughout the Great Lakes Region of Division III.
