CWRU Track and Field Gears Up for Mid-February Meet and Indoor All-Ohio Championships

This weekend, members of the Case Western Reserve University men's and women's track and field teams will either be competing in the Mid-February Meet hosted by Baldwin Wallace University or the 2018 Division III All-Ohio Championships.

The Mid-February Meet will take place on Friday, February 9th at the Lou Higgins Center Fieldhouse, while the All-Ohio Championships are on Saturday, February 10th at Otterbein University in the Clements Recreation and Fitness Center (Running & Jumping Events) and The Rike Center (Throwing Events).

Last season, the men's team finished 9th of 13 Teams at the Mid-February Meet and fourth out of 18 teams at the All-Ohio Championships, while the women finished fifth out of 13 at Baldwin Wallace and eighth of 17 at Otterbein.

Last weekend, the Spartans competed at the Joe Banks Invitational hosted by Ohio Northern University where senior Cassandra Laios, junior Olivia Newman and sophomore Michael Hradesky highlighted a number of strong performances.

Laios finished first in the weight throw with a mark of 16.93 meters and then took first in the shot put with a toss of 13.68 meters. Newman placed first in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.31, while also adding a second-place finish in the 500-meter run with a new school-record time of 1:19.95.

Hradesky led the men with a first-place finish in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:00.47.

In addition, sophomore Dominic Oddo and freshman Kai Fletcher competed at the All-Ohio Multi-Events Championship this past weekend. Oddo finished second out of nine competitors in the men's heptathlon with a new school-record of 4,615 points. He broke the previous school record of 4,523 points set by Michael Cohara in 2012. Oddo and Fletcher combined to score 10 points which will be included towards the All-Ohio Division III Championships this Saturday.

The BW Mid-February Meet is set to begin with field events at 4:00 p.m. with running events to follow at 5:00 p.m. For more meet information, CLICK HERE.
