Five Spartans Compete on Day One of Kent State Golden Gala

The Case Western Reserve University men's and women's track and field teams opened up the road portion of their 2016-17 schedule at the Kent State Golden Gala on Friday at the Kent State Field House.

Junior Sam Merriman turned in the Spartans top performance of the day, finishing third in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 15.19.72.

Sophomore Tyler Bushman also competed for the men on the first day of the Golden Gala, finishing 23rd in the weight throw with a mark of 12.22 meters.

Senior Temi Omilabu led the Spartan women with a ninth-place finish in the weight throw with a mark of 15.42 meters.

Junior Nimi Gupta and junior Cassandra Laios also competed in weight throw, finishing 15th and 16th, respectively. Gupta hit a career-best mark of 13.85 meters, while Laios recorded a throw of 13.79 meters.

Competition will resume Saturday, December 10th with events set to begin at 11:00 a.m. Live stats are available for the event and can be found on the schedule page.
