CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Case Western Reserve University women's track & field team was victorious in dual meet action versus rival Carnegie Mellon University (Pa.) by a commanding total of 95-32. Coupled with the men's team's performance Saturday, the Spartans claimed the Obelisk Trophy in 2012 by a score of 153-101.

The Obelisk Trophy is awarded to the winning school in what has become an annual dual meet between the two programs started by current CWRU head coach Steve Rubin.

A pair of Case seniors notched two individual event victories respectively helping the hosts to claim a total of nine individual event wins along with a relay victory. Senior Erin Hollinger (Chardon, Ohio/Chardon) won titles in the pole vault (8 feet, 6 and one-quarter inches) as well as the high jump (5' 1"), while classmate Amanda Kline (Lancaster, Ohio/Lancaster) outdistanced the field in the weight throw (45' 11.75") and the shot put (39' 8.50").

Event victories also came from fourth-year Spartans Nataija Brown (Cleveland, Ohio/Glenville) in the long jump (16' 9.75"), Natalia Cabrera (Shaker Heights, Ohio/Shaker Heights) in the mile run (5:35.65) and Samantha Friedman (Beachwood, Ohio/Beachwood) in the 200-meter dash (26.93).

In their first Obelisk dual, a pair of first-year Spartans collected individual event victories. Freshman Keri Walter (Cairo, Egypt/Cairo American) won the triple jump (35' 5.75") while Kristen Ruckstuhl (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor) paced the field home in the 5,000-meter run (18:13.78).

The Spartans also picked up an event win as the distance medley relay quartet stopped the clock in 13:21.97.

Select Spartans return to the track next weekend on Friday, February 10 at the Baldwin-Wallace College Mid-February Meet at 5:00 p.m., while most of the team will compete at the All-Ohio Championships on Saturday, Feb. 11 inside the Clements Recreation Center on the campus of Otterbein University.
