OBERLIN, Ohio – The Case Western Reserve University women's tennis team kicked off its fall schedule by competing at the 2013 Oberlin College Invitational. The three-day event took place on the Dun Hunsinger Courts from Friday, September 13 through Sunday Sept. 15.
Lee won her first match of the weekend when she defeated Baldwin Wallace University's Claire Watts by a 6-2, 6-0 score. Lee then defeated Erin Johnson of Oberlin in a marathon 6-3, 3-6, 10-8 battle and Zoe Kasiurak of Denison University by a 7-5, 6-2 tally.
In singles action, Mills started quickly, winning in two sets versus Olivia Hay of Oberlin by scores of 6-3 and 6-0. Mills then defeated Allegheny College's (Pa.) Michaela Thompson by a 6-3, 3-6, 10-5 tally and swept her Sunday with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Allegheny's Kathleen McBride.
As a partnership, Lee and Mills defeated two pairs from Allegheny by scores of 8-3 and 8-4.
In addition, sophomores Michelle Djohan (Westlake, Ohio/Westlake), Taylor Sweeney (Fort Gratiot, Mich./Port Huron Northern) and Surya Khadilkar (Broadview Heights, Ohio/Hawken School) were joined by freshman Kennedy Mulholland (Pepper Pike, Ohio/Beachwood) as the Spartans who finished the weekend with a 2-1 singles record.
Djohan and Sweeney also went 2-1 in doubles action while Mulholland posted a record of 2-0 with partner Lauren Rovner (Lima, Ohio/Shawnee).
The Spartans hit the courts again on Friday, Sept. 20, when they travel to Greencastle, Indiana for the USTA/ITA Central Region Championship.
