Spartan Women 25th in the Nation, Fourth in the Region in Final ITA Polls of the Season

SKILLMAN, N.J. – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association has released its final polls for the 2012-13 season, and the Case Western Reserve University women rank 25th in the nation as well as fourth in the ITA Central Region.

The Spartans (12-9), nationally ranked for the first time in program history this spring, had reached as high as No. 22 in the polls back in April.

Individually, freshman Sara Zargham (Torrence, Calif./California Academy of Math and Science) finished her rookie campaign ranked 37th in the national singles poll and fifth in the region. Late last month, Zargham became the first player in program history to qualify for the NCAA Championship Tournament. The first-year standout finished the year at 16-11 overall while competing mostly in the top singles spot.

Also ranked in the region, senior Erika Lim (Fullerton, Calif./Fullerton Union) earned the No. 17 singles spot as well as the No. 8 doubles ranking with freshman Surya Khadilkar (Broadview Heights, Ohio/Hawken School).

Lim saw only spring action this season after studying abroad in the fall and was 8-8 with all of her matches in the top two singles positions. The winningest women's player in school history, Lim finishes her career at 60-34 in singles and 61-38 in doubles. Last season, she posted identical 21-10 records in both.

As a pair, Lim and Khadilkar went 7-3 with all but one of their matches at No. 1 doubles. Khadilkar also posted a 14-9 record in singles play during her rookie season.
