SKILLMAN, N.J. – Case Western Reserve University's Kirsten Gambrell has been named the Wilson/Intercollegiate Tennis Association Central Region Women's Assistant Coach of the Year, announced the ITA on Tuesday.
In her first season with the program, Gambrell helped lead the Spartan women (12-9) to the first national ranking in program history and their best University Athletic Association finish (sixth) since 1997.
The Spartans, currently ranked No. 22 in the nation, will also be represented in NCAA Tournament play for the first time in team history when freshman Sara Zargham (Torrance, Calif./California Academy of Math and Science) competes in the singles championship on May 23-25 in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
A former NCAA Division I standout at DePaul University (Ill.), Gambrell joined the staff at CWRU this summer following a two-year stint as a graduate assistant at Berry College in Mount Berry, Georgia.
