Sara Zargham Selected as First Female in School History to Compete at NCAA Division III Tennis Championship
INDIANAPOLIS – The field has been announced for the singles and doubles portion of the 2013 NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championship. Amongst the 32 singles players named is Case Western Reserve University freshman Sara Zargham (Torrance, Calif./California Academy of Math and Science), who will be the first female in school history to compete at the event.
The individual portion of the NCAA Championship will follow the team competition and be held on May 23-25 at Stowe Stadium in Kalamazoo, Michigan. The round of 32 begins at 8:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 23 with seeds to be determined.
Zargham finished the regular season in a tie for the fifth spot in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Central Region singles poll. The first-year Spartan had ranked as high as third earlier in the spring.
In her rookie campaign, Zargham has compiled a singles record of 16-10 with 15 matches at the No. 1 position and a doubles mark of 14-9 with five different partners. During the fall season, Zargham advanced to the semifinals in the Flight A draw of the USTA/ITA Central Region Championship.
The Spartans (12-9) finished the regular season as a team with the No. 24 ranking in the ITA national poll. The 2012-13 season marked the first in program history where the team was nationally ranked.
