GAMBIER, Ohio – Competing for the second time in as many days to open the 2012 spring schedule, the Case Western Reserve University women's tennis team was victorious by a score of 8-1 versus North Carolina Wesleyan University on Saturday afternoon at the Kenyon College Athletic Center.
The Spartans, who upset Kenyon yesterday, improve to 5-0 in dual matches this season. Ranked No. 14 in the InterCollegiate Tennis Association Central Region, Case returns to action next Friday, February 17 at St. Mary's College at 7:00 p.m. in Notre Dame, Indiana.
Case swept through doubles action for the second-straight day with scores of 8-2 at both No. 1 and No.3 and 8-1 at No. 2.
In the first doubles position, junior Erika Lim (Fullerton, Calif./Fullerton Union) teamed with freshman sister Alexandra Lim (Fullerton, Calif./Fullerton Union) to defeat Kristin Seidel and Samia Kacher. In second doubles, junior captain Kathleen Evers (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame) and sophomore Bianca Patel (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore) were victorious versus Bristy Parker and Tori Jones. Then at No. 3, freshman Marianne Bonanno (Clayton, Ohio/Northmont) and junior Emily Pham (Mason, Ohio/William Mason) completed the sweep versus Alice Bouchet and Yvonne Kamegne.
In singles action, Erika Lim, the region's No. 2-ranked player, defeated Kacher in straight-sets (6-0, 6-2). Pham, Alexandra Lim, Evers and Patel also earned straight-set victories with Evers and Patel posting 6-0, 6-0 scores at No. 5 and No. 6, respectively.
Following next Friday's match at St. Mary's, the Spartans return to Cleveland to play at Division I Cleveland State University at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 19.
