Three Spartan Women Named to CSCAA Scholar All-American Team; Team Also Honored

CHICAGO, Ill. – Three student-athletes from Case Western Reserve University women's swimming & diving have been named to the 2012 College Swimming Coaches Association of America Honorable Mention Scholar All-American Team. In addition, the Spartans garnered CSCAA Team Scholar All-American honors for the spring semester.

The CSCAA presents the honorable mention award to swimmers and divers who achieved a spring semester grade point average of 3.5 or higher in addition to a "B-Cut" standard, but did not qualify for their respective national championship.

The Team Scholar All American award is presented to college and university swimming and diving teams who have achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher. The award is presented to teams achieving this standard in the fall semester and in the semester of the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships (Winter/Spring).

As a team, the Spartans (3.29 GPA) were one of seven University Athletic Association women's squads to collect the team award during the championship semester.

The three Spartan selections consisted of 2012 graduates Stephanie Campbell (Highland Heights, Ohio/Mayfield) and Jessica Nuhfer (Warren, Pa./Warren Area) along with rising junior Sara Tillie (Fallston, Md./Fallston).

A nursing major with a 4.0 GPA during her final semester, Campbell turned in one of the finest individual seasons in program history with five school records and All-University Athletic Association honors in two events. At the UAA Championship in mid-February, Campbell hit three individual NCAA "B-Cuts" and broke her own school records in 200-yard individual medley (2:08.55), 100 backstroke (58.04) and 200 back (2:03.61). Campbell also had two NCAA "B-Cuts" as a member of the school-record breaking 400 (3:54.28) and 200 (1:47.45) medley relay teams.

Also a nursing major with a 4.0 GPA during the spring, Nuhfer earned All-UAA honors and joined Campbell and Tillie in setting the school record with the third-place 400 medley relay team at the UAA Championship on February 16.  A UAA All-Academic honoree, Nuhfer posted individual career-best times in nearly all of her events as a senior.

Tillie earned a 3.56 GPA this past semester as an anthropology and Asian studies double-major. As a sophomore, Tillie garnered All-UAA honors and set a school record with the third-place 400 medley relay team alongside Nufher and Campbell.  Tillie also swam a leg for the school record-setting 200 medley relay that posted a second-place time of 1:47.45 at the UAA Championship on February 17.

In 2011-12, the Spartan women shattered six school records and hit multiple NCAA "B-Cuts" in addition to landing a spot on the CSCAA Scholar All-American Team list.
