CWRU Swimming & Diving Pulls in Two UAA Athlete of the Week Awards
PITTSFORD, N.Y. – Two Case Western Reserve University swimming & diving student-athletes were selected as University Athletic Association Athletes of the Week, announced by the conference office on Monday, January 10. Freshman diver Dan Jacobson (Solon, OH/Solon) and classmate Maggie Dillione (Newtown, PA/Council Rock North) were recognized for their roles in the Spartans' dual meet sweep of Notre Dame College (OH) on Saturday.
Jacobson receives the honor for the second time in his young career after finishing first on both boards as the men's team edged NDC, 123.5-99.5, to improve to 5-0 in dual meets this season. Jacobson, who is already an NCAA provisional qualifier, won the one-meter dive event, outscoring his closest competitor 271.40-210.40. On the three-meter board, Jacobson tallied 281.30 points to win by 91.3.
Dillione received the first conference recognition of her career after pacing the women with individual wins in the 100-yard butterfly and the 200-yard freestyle. Dillione registered a time of 1:56.52 in the 200 free and touched the wall in 59.84 to win the 100-yard butterfly. The women's squad improved to 3-2 for the season in dual meets with the 108-88 decision.
Next up for the Spartans will be a dual match at local rival Baldwin-Wallace College on Friday, January 14 at 6:00 p.m.
