Case Western Reserve Continues Competition at 2011 UAA Championships

WEBSTER, N.Y. – Through 12 events and two days at the 2011 University Athletic Association Swimming & Diving Championships, the Case Western Reserve University men's swimming & diving squad holds control of third position behind Emory University (GA) and Carnegie Mellon University (PA) with a team score of 307 points. On the women's side, the Spartans sit in sixth place with 220 points after the completion of 11 events.

The highlight of the night for Case came when the Spartans' 400-yard medley relay foursome of senior Robby Browning (Grosse Pointe, MI/Grosse Pointe South), senior Peter Fino (Sterling Heights, MI/Detroit Jesuit), freshman Sean Nickley (Springfield, VA/West Springfield) and freshman Gus Bailey (Grove City, OH/Grove City) took third place overall in 3:28.44 to earn All-UAA honors.

The women's 400-medley quartet fought to a fifth-place finish in 3:55.99.

In the 200 free relay, the Case women took fourth on the strength of a 1:38.06 finish, while the men scored a fifth-place result in the same event, touching in 1:26.18.

In the individual events, Bailey placed sixth in the 50 free with his time of 21.21. Junior Sam Geiger (Westlake, OH/St. Edward) also finished seventh in the 500 free finals in 4:39.29, while freshman Nick Clyde (Ann Arbord, MI/Huron) secured a seventh-place result in the 200 individual medley with a time of 1:54.82.

The UAA Championships will continue on Friday, February 17 with the 200 medley prelims kicking off the day at 10:00 a.m. The finals session will follow at 6:00 p.m.
