The Case Western Reserve University women's soccer team fell to the first-ranked University of Chicago, 3-0, at Stagg Field in Chicago, Illinois on Sunday afternoon.
The loss dropped the Spartans 5-9-0 overall, including a 0-4-0 ledger in the University Athletic Association play. Chicago raised its overall record to 14-0-0 with a 4-0-0 UAA mark.
The Maroons took the lead in the seventh minute of play on Sunday, when Mia Calamari scored her third goal of the season off an assist from Mackenzie Peebles. The score remained 1-0 until the second half, when a goal in the 46th minute of play increased the Maroons lead to 2-0. Chicago capped of the scoring for the day with a 74th minute goal by Julia Lodoen, her fourth of the season, as she received a pass from Claudia Hodgetts and Rachel Dias and sent a shot into the back of the net.
Sophomore goalkeeper Lauren Unterborn made 11 saves in the game for the Spartans. Junior forward Maggie Tyma and sophomore midfielder Ana Petropoulos recorded one shot. The Spartans finished the game with two total shots, while the Maroons took 24 shots in the game, including 14 on goal.
Case Western Reserve will have a week break from conference play, returning to action next Saturday, October 21st against Oberlin College. The non-conference game is scheduled for a 3:30 p.m. start at Shults Field in Oberlin, Ohio.
