  • CWRU Women's Soccer Trip to South Africa Blog - Day 8
    January 14, 2017
Last day in Africa! We woke up at 5:30am to complete our final safari ride. We saw lions, giraffe, cheetah, leopard, rhinos, zebra, wildebeest, ostrich, and baboons. The elephants put on a special show and allowed us a close up (and some selfies) just a couple yards away from our vehicle. We finished the safari and ate lunch at the reserve before checking out. Then we set out for the airport to embark on our 40+ hour trip home.

Thankfully, this morning we were able to sleep in a bit longer and spend a little extra time souvenir shopping down at the Waterfront. As a few of us put all those "six-corner" workouts to use sprinting back to meet the bus, we loaded our luggage and eventually all headed out of Cape Town towards the Aquila Private Game Reserve. The bus ride was, as always, spent singing along with the jambox and taking turns playing the "Heads up" app.

    January 11, 2017
After early mornings the previous two days we had a later start with a departure time of 8:30 to the goedgedacht trust. A little more rested with a little less skin from sunburns peeling from days before, we left the city of Cape Town and watched the scenery become more and more rural spotting cows, sheep, and even some ostrich.
  • CWRU Women's Soccer Trip to South Africa Blog - Day 5
    January 10, 2017
Happy Monday!!! Unlike traditional Mondays, today our team was in for a super fun adventure. On the schedule today was zip lining, followed by our third and final game in Cape Town. Our day began with another 5:30am wake up call. We boarded our coach bus and had our quietest car ride to date, the silence only being interrupted by sporadic snoring, Tiff's SA history questions for Cabello, and the exchange of breakfast box components. My bus dreams were on the scary side due to my uneasiness about heights and trusting a couple carabiners to transport me at high speeds between small wooden platforms.

We started our day earlier than any of us were prepared for with a bus departure time of 6:00 am. Breakfast boxes in hand, we all piled onto the bus ready to eat, and then take a nap during the two hour ride to Gansbaii for shark cage diving. As soon as the doors closed and the engine started, we began eating our breakfast that the hotel made for us. Shout out to the people who made that amazing meal filled with a sandwiches, muffins and just about everything one could ask for in a meal.

  • CWRU Women's Soccer Trip to South Africa Blog - Day 1
    January 06, 2017
After 6 hours in a van, 9 hours of sitting in airports, and 19 hours in the air, the CWRU Women's Soccer Team has finally arrived in Cape Town, South Africa for our winter break soccer/service trip. For most, the journey began the morning of January 3rd in Cleveland, OH, where we piled our luggage into fifteen passenger vans and headed off to the Chicago airport to meet up with the rest of our teammates. Naturally, I spent most of the van ride worrying that I forgot to pack something crucial and checking every 30 seconds to make sure my passport did not somehow magically escape from my book bag. Soon, we had made it to Chicago, and our coach/driver Abbey managed to knock over only one parking lot sign with her van.
