DANVILLE, Ky. – The Case Western Reserve University women's soccer team rallied from two goals down in the second half to upend Transylvania University (Ky.), 3-2, at the season-opening Centre University Showcase on Friday night at Hillside Field.
The Spartans (1-0) wrap up the weekend on Saturday versus host and No. 18 nationally-ranked Centre University at 5:00 p.m.
After falling behind 2-0 just a minute into the second half, the Spartans began a furious comeback when sophomore midfielder Kate Dolansky (Brecksville, Ohio/Hathaway Brown) blasted a shot from outside the 18-yard box past the Transylvania goaltender at the 52:52 mark.
Senior forward/captain Leah Levey (Columbus, Ohio/Bexley) then tied the game with less than 15 minutes on the clock with a direct free kick. After six more minutes of scoreless play, sophomore forward Kiley Armstrong (Sylvania, Ohio/St. Ursula Academy) completed the turnaround with a goal off of a corner kick at the 81:05 mark.
In her team debut, junior goalkeeper Abbey Smith (Powell, Ohio/Olentangy Liberty) earned her first win with one save in 90 minutes.
The Spartans controlled the second half with a 10-3 advantage in shots. For the game, Case led in shots, 12-7, and corner kicks, 2-1.
Following the conclusion of the Centre Showcase, the Spartans open the home portion of the schedule versus Heidelberg University on Friday, September 6, at 7:30 p.m. at Case Field.
