CWRU Wrestling Heads to Wheaton, Ill. for Pete Willson Invite

The Case Western Reserve University wrestling team, will look to build on the momentum of its second win of the season last Saturday, when the squad travels to Wheaton, Illinois for the Pete Willson Invitational, hosted by Wheaton College on Friday, January 27th and Saturday, January 28th.

Action is slated to begin at 12:00 p.m. ET on Friday, and continue throughout the day, with action resuming on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. ET. Results from the tournament will be updated throughout the two days at http://athletics.wheaton.edu/sports/2017/1/23/2017-PWWI-results.aspx?id=461. The Championship matches on Saturday, scheduled to start at approximately at 1:15 p.m. ET, will be webcasted https://livestream.com/wheatonthunder.

The field for the Pete Willson Invitational is slated to be a strong one, including fifth-ranked UW-LaCrosse, eighth-ranked Messiah, ninth-ranked Baldwin Wallace, 11th-ranked UW-Platteville, 12th-ranked UW-Whitewater, 14th-ranked Ferrum, 17th-ranked Olivet and 20th-ranked Ohio Northern. Other schools scheduled to attend include Adrian, Alma, Augustana, Buena Vista, University of Chicago, Concordia University (Wis.), Elizabethtown, Elmhurst, Heidelberg, John Carroll, Lakeland, Manchester, MacMurray, Millikin, Mount St. Joseph, Mount Union, MSOE, Nebraska Wesleyan, North Central (Ill.), Otterbein, Pacific, Thomas More, Trine, UW-Eau Claire, and UW-Stevens Point.

The Spartans will be looking to maintain momentum, following a 28-14 home win over Muskingum at the 2017 Si Ostrach Meet last Saturday. Freshman Alec Hoover (133 pounds) and sophomore Brian McNamara (285 pounds) each earned wins by pin, while freshman Andrew Hoover (141 pounds), freshman Isaac Collier (149 pounds), freshman Andrew Munn (157 pounds), junior Nick Tommas (174 pounds) and sophomore Gavin Dersh-Fisher (197 pounds) each added victories during the team win.

Nine wrestlers are currently scheduled to compete for the Spartans, including freshman Jacob Frisch (125 pounds), Alec Hoover (133 pounds), Andrew Hoover (141 pounds), freshman Michael Petersen (149 pounds), Munn (157 pounds), Nick Tommas (174 pounds), Dersh-Fisher (197 pounds), McNamara (285 pounds) and sophomore Chris Zhang (285 pounds).

Results of the meet will be posted to athletics.case.edu after each day of competition, with a full release after the conclusion of competition on Saturday.
