Spartan Wrestlers Fall to JCU in Home Opener

CLEVELAND – The Case Western Reserve University wrestling team lost its 2012-13 home opener to local-rival John Carroll University by a score of 42-3 on Tuesday evening inside Horsburgh Gymnasium.

The Spartans (0-1) opened the night with a 3-0 lead as freshman Josh Hall (Galloway, Ohio/Bishop Ready) earned a 6-3 decision versus Michael Buckiso at 125 pounds. Hall, who improved to 4-2 for the season, scored his deciding three points after the match was tied at three in the third period. The Blue Streaks (1-0) then picked up a decision at 133, a forfeit at 141, a major decision at 149 and a technical fall at 157 to build an 18-3 lead.

At 165, junior Brian Snyder (Charlotte, N.C./East Mecklenburg) scored late points to pull even with Vinnie Pizzuli, but Pizzuli picked up the deciding point in the final moments to earn a 7-6 decision. John Carroll closed out the match with a pin at 174, a decision at 184, a pin at 197 and a forfeit at 285.

The Spartans return to action this Saturday, November 17 at the Laker Open at Mercyhurst University in Erie, Pennsylvania. Action is set to begin at 10:00 a.m.
