PITTSFORD, N.Y. – Three Case Western Reserve University student-athletes were named as University Athletic Association Athletes of the Week, announced the league office on Tuesday, November 23. Amongst the three were women's basketball junior forward Erin Hollinger (Chardon, OH/Chardon), wrestling junior Isaac Dukes (Ravenna, OH/Ravenna), and men's swimming & diving freshman Dan Jacobson (Solon, OH/Solon).
Hollinger receives the award for the sixth time in her career. During the first week of the season, the All-UAA and ESPN Academic All-American forward averaged 17.0 points and 5.0 rebounds per game with 11 blocked shots and six steals as the Spartans opened the season with a 3-0 record. In 81 minutes, Hollinger connected on 21-of-36 field goal attempts (.583) and 4-of-5 (.800) three-pointers. She and the Spartans are back in action this evening versus Baldwin-Wallace College at 7:00 p.m. at Horsburgh Gymnasium.
Dukes, the defending 149-pound national champion, continues to the make the UAA award a weekly honor for himself. He has now earned the award three straight times and 13 times overall in his career. He was a perfect 6-0 with three pins en route to capturing the 149-pound title at the Concordia University (WI) Open. He was named the tournament's most outstanding wrestler and ran his season record to 11-0. Dukes has not lost a match since last January. The Spartans are back in action next Tuesday, November 30 at John Carroll University at 7:00 p.m.
Jacobson earns the award for the first time in his young career. Competing in tri-match action with Grove City College (PA) and national-power Kenyon College, Jacobson placed first in both the one-meter dive (270.70 points) and three-meter dive (289.75). His score on the three-meter board was an NCAA qualifying mark. Jacobson and Spartans return to competition on December 2-4 at the College of Wooster Invitational.
