Erin Hollinger Named Semifinalist for Prestigious Jostens Trophy
SALEM, Va. – Case Western Reserve University women's basketball junior forward Erin Hollinger (Chardon, OH/Chardon) has been named one of just 11 women's finalists from around the nation for the prestigious Jostens Trophy, announced the Rotary Club of Salem, Virginia on Tuesday, March 1.
The Jostens Trophy is a national award created by the Rotary Club of Salem to honor the most outstanding men's and women's Division III basketball players of the year. The award takes into account three vital parts: basketball ability, academic prowess and community service. The trophy models the Rotary International motto of "Service above Self" by recognizing those who truly fit the ideal of the well-rounded Division III student-athlete. This 2011 class marks the 14th year the award has been presented.
Hollinger averaged 16.8 points and 5.9 rebounds per game with 46 blocked shots this season. She led the University Athletic Association in both scoring and blocks and was named UAA Athlete of the Week on three separate occasions. In addition, she became just the 10th woman in CWRU basketball history to reach 1,000 career points. She ended the 2010-11 campaign in seventh place on the school's all-time list with 1,093 points.
Also excelling in the classroom, Hollinger carries a 3.96 grade point average as a macromolecular science and engineering major. She was recently named second-team Capital One Academic All-America, marking the third time in her career she received the honor -- twice for basketball, once in track & field.
Immediately following the conclusion of the basketball season this past Saturday, February 26, Hollinger joined her track & field teammates in Chicago, Illinois for the UAA Indoor Championships. In her first event of the season, the All-American won the conference's high jump event.
Jostens will announce the award winners on Mar. 9 and will present the award on March 17 at the Salem Civic Center in conjunction with the Men's NCAA Division III Championship that is also being hosted in Salem from March 18-19.
