Shannel Blackshear was named the Assistant Coach of the Case Western Reserve University softball team in August of 2016.
Blackshear comes to Case Western Reserve from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, where she spent the previous two years as a graduate assistant and team manager for the Division I softball program. While with the Razorbacks, she assisted with the program in a variety of capacities, including coaching, academics and recruiting.
Prior to her arrival in Fayetteville, Blackshear spent a year as a student assistant at her alma mater, the University of Wisconsin. She also served as the varsity assistant coach at James Madison Memorial High School and as a volunteer assistant coach with the Wisconsin Xplozion U16 squad.
Blackshear was a standout player for the Badgers during her career (2010-13) as a varsity softball player, graduating as the program’s all-time leader in RBIs (137) and walks (95) and home runs (30). She earned All-Big Ten Third Team honors in 2010, and was an All-Region honoree during the team’s NCAA Tournament run in 2013. Blackshear ended her Wisconsin career with 61 extra-base hits and 175 total hits.
Blackshear received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology from Wisconsin in 2014, and her Masters of Education, Recreation and Sports Management from Arkansas in 2016.
