Case Western Reserve University senior Annie Wennerberg was named the University Athletic Association Pitcher of the Week for Softball, after helping the Spartans to four wins last week.
Wennerberg went 3-0 during last week's spring break games, allowing zero earned runs in 22.2 innings pitched, while striking out eight batters. During the Spartans' 3-2 win against Mount Saint Mary, Wennerberg pitched seven scoreless innings, allowing two runs (both unearned) on six hits and striking out five batters.
For the season, Wennerberg has a 4-2 overall record, including four complete games. She has totaled 38 innings pitched, allowing seven earned runs on 32 hits, while striking out 18 batters. She leads the team with a 1.29 earned run average. This was the third career UAA Athlete of the Week honor for Wennerberg, and first this season.
The Spartans won four of their six games played in Florida last week and have opened the season with a 5-5 record. Case Western Reserve will return to Cleveland to host their home-opening doubleheader on Tuesday, March 21st against Kenyon College. The first pitch of the first game is slated for 3:00 p.m.
