CWRU Heads to Wittenberg on Saturday

The Case Western Reserve University softball team will travel to Springfield, Ohio for a doubleheader against Wittenberg University, starting at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 26th.

CWRU Spartans
The Spartans are coming off a midweek split of a doubleheader at Mount Union, losing 9-7 in the first game, before bouncing back with a 10-6 win over the Raiders in the second game.  Case Western Reserve is now 10-14 overall this season, including records of 6-4 in road games and 4-10 in neutral contests.  The team is batting .311 for the year and averaging 5.2 runs per game, while the pitching staff has a 3.87 ERA and a .290 opponents' average.

Sophomore infielder Lindsey Robinson leads the team with a .403 batting average, while sophomore Grace Tritchler is batting .380 with a team-high five home runs and 24 runs batted in.  On the mound, junior Annie Wennerberg is 6-8 with a 4.05 ERA, while sophomore Katie Dzierwa is 1-3 with a team-best 3.20 ERA.

The Spartans are under the leadership of Head Coach Josie Henry, who is now in her sixth season with the team, and has a career record of 136-93.  Henry is assisted by Ashley Parello, Molly O'Brien and Natalie DeMatteis.

Wittenberg Tigers
Wittenberg is 13-2-1 overall this season, including marks of 1-1 at home, 2-1-1 on the road, and 10-0 in neutral-site games.  The team is coming off a split of a doubleheader at Capital on Tuesday, and will play at Anderson University on Friday, before taking on the Spartans on Saturday.  The Tigers are hitting .345 as a team and scoring 6.3 runs per game, while pitching to a 2.17 team ERA with a .209 opponents' average.

Lauren Buelow has led the team with a .457 average this season, while Chelsea Zang has hit .378 with three home runs and 13 runs batted in.  Zang is also the team's top pitcher, going 8-1 on the year with a 1.15 ERA.

The Tigers are coached by Laura Matthews, who is 80-43-1 during her four seasons at the squad's helm, good for a .649 winning percentage.  She is assisted by Nikki Miller.

Matchup History
Last season, the Spartans swept a doubleheader on the road against the Tigers, winning 5-4 in the early game and 20-0 in the late contest.  Katie Wede led the team in the first game, going four-for-four with a home run, a double, and three runs batted in.  In the second game, Wennerberg pitched a complete-game shutout, scattering six hits and striking out seven batters over five innings of work, while going two-for-three with three RBIs at the plate.

The Spartans have won their last four games against Wittenberg, and five of their last six games, dating back to the 2012 season.

Grace Tritchler is batting .583 (seven-for-12) over her last three games with four doubles, a home run, and seven runs batted in… Tritchler has a team-leading seven multiple-RBI games this season, including four games with at least three runs batted in… Tritchler and Maren Waldner are tied for the team lead with nine multiple-hit games this season… Annie Wennerberg tied the school record with her 28th career home run during the team's game against Brandeis on March 9th… She matched the mark previously held by former Spartan Lauren Wolz (2009-12)… She is also seventh in school history with 87 career RBIs, 47 behind the program record, and three behind Ashley Parello for sixth in the record book… Lindsey Robinson had a Spartan-best 11-game hitting streak between February 20th and March 8th… Robinson hit .390 (16-for-41) during the stretch… She has also hit safely in each of her last seven games, the longest current active streak by a CWRU player, and is hitting .542 (13-for-24) during the stretch with a team-high eight runs scored… Robinson tallied five hits in the team's 10-3 win over Ohio Northern, the most in a game this season by a Spartan player.
