Kelly Leads Spartan Men’s Harriers to Seventh-Place Finish at Calvin Invite
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- Junior Chris Kelly (Twinsburg, Ohio/Twinsburg) led the Case Western Reserve University men's cross country squad to a seventh-place finish in an 18-team field at the highly-competitive Calvin College Knight Invitational run on the Gainey Athletic Fields on Saturday.
Kelly completed the race in a time of 25:14.26 to place 14th overall in the rigorous field.
Calvin College (Mich.) – ranked No. 5 in the latest United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCA) national poll – won the team title with 37 points. Allegheny College (Pa.) finished second with 81 points, while Ohio Northern University was third with 117, the University of Mount Union finished fourth with 177 and Cornerstone University (Mich.) rounded out the top five with 184.
The Spartans displayed team depth at a meet that featured more than 201 runners participating on the 8k course. Senior Christopher Wade (Berea, Ohio/Berea) placed 36th in a time of 26:16.80, while sophomore David Dixon (Atlanta, Georgia/Lakeside) was right behind Wade placing 42nd in a time of 26:22.20. Senior Ethan Teare (Burton, Ohio/Berkshire) placed 60th in 26:30.40, while sophomore Wyatt Hoch (Perrysburg, Ohio/Perrysburg) rounded out the Spartan scoring in 73rd place with a time of 26:50.00.
Also of note, a few select Case men's cross country runners competed at the Penn State Behrend University Invitational in Erie, Pennsylvania. Junior Paul Curtiss (Newport Beach, California/Newport Harbor) led the way with a 22nd-place finish and a time of 27:35.8, while sophomore Mitchell Haynes (Henrietta, N.Y./Rush-Henrietta) wound up 26th in a time of 27:52.10.
Case will have next weekend off from competition to prepare for the All-Ohio Championship held on Friday, September 30 hosted by Cedarville University.
