HUNTING VALLEY, Ohio – Junior Chris Kelly (Twinsburg, Ohio/Twinsburg) won the individual championship to lead the Case Western Reserve University men's cross country team to a second-place finish at the 11th Annual Bill Sudeck Classic at Squire Valleevue Farm.
Kelly, who placed ninth at last year's meet, crossed the line in 20:07.80. Patrick McGlaughlin of Allegheny College (Pa.) was runner-up in 20:20.47.
Allegheny won the team scoring with 24 points in the hot and humid conditions. Case (35) was second and was followed by Notre Dame College (Ohio) with 79 points.
In addition to Kelly, two other Spartans finished in the top-10 with senior Christopher Wade (Berea, Ohio/Berea) in fifth (20:53.57) and senior Peter Walls (Anchorage, Alaska/Grace Christian) in sixth (21:02.46).
Senior Ethan Teare (Burton, Ohio/Berkshire) rounded out the Spartan scoring in 11th place (21:32.13).
The Spartans have next weekend off from full competition but will run in the annual CWRU Alumni Meet on Saturday, Sept. 10 at 10:00 a.m. The team is then back in action on Saturday, Sept. 17 at the Knight Invitational at Calvin College (Mich.) at 10:00 a.m.
