CLEVELAND – The No. 10 nationally ranked Case Western Reserve University men's tennis team concluded its regular season with a 9-0 victory over Earlham College (Ind.) on Seniors' Day at Carlton Courts. The Spartans donned pink attire as part of a "Rally for the Cure" event.
CWRU (14-5) swept the day in both doubles and singles and did not drop a set for the entire match.
Seniors Eric Klawitter (Arlington Heights, Ill./John Hersey), Derek Reinbold (Carmel, Ind./Park Tudor) and John Healey (Columbia, Md./Atholton) as well as sophomore Christopher Krimbill (Scottsdale, Ariz./Desert Mountain) all completed 2-0 days in the win.
Klawitter and Reinbold partnered to win 8-3 at second doubles before Klawitter won 6-4, 6-3 at third singles, and Reinbold won 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2.
Healey and fellow senior Trent Searfoss (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson) won 8-1 at No. 3 doubles over Earlham's Scott Lawrence and Andrey Gavrilov. Healey followed his doubles victory with a win at No. 6 singles, 6-1, 7-5 over Gavrilov.
Krimbill earned a 9-7 victory in first doubles with sophomore partner Louis Stuerke (Overland Park, Kan./Blue Valley Northwest) before winning 7-6, 6-2 at No. 1 singles. Junior Will Drougas (Roanoke, Va./Salem) and freshman James Fojtasek (Cypress, Texas/Cypress Woods) rounded out the Spartan win with victories in singles.
For his career, Healey has a combined 132 wins (54 singles/78 doubles). He ranks second all-time in program history behind Kyle Gerber's (2009-13) record of 139.
CWRU next competes in the University Athletic Association Championship Tournament which is scheduled for April 24-26 in Altamonte Springs, Florida.
