CHICAGO – After severe weather cancelled Saturday's opening match against No. 2 Washington University in St. Louis, the No. 10 nationally ranked Case Western Reserve University men's tennis team defeated Coe College (Iowa), 8-1, at the Stagg Courts.
The Spartans improve to 13-5 with just one regular season match remaining on the schedule. The Kohawks drop to 21-6.
CWRU took all three doubles points as sophomore Christopher Krimbill (Scottsdale, Ariz./Desert Mountain) and senior Eric Klawitter (Arlington Heights, Ill./John Hersey) defeated Noah Sprinkel and Riley Galbraith, 8-4, at No. 1. Senior John Healey (Columbia, Md./Atholton) and junior Will Drougas (Roanoke, Va./Salem) won at No. 2, 8-6, over Michael Janssen and Ryan Hickman. At No. 3 the partnership of senior Derek Reinbold (Carmel, Ind./Park Tudor) and sophomore Louis Stuerke (Overland Park, Kan./Blue Valley Northwest) earned an 8-3 victory over Sean Stokstad and Mark Kroll.
Krimbill, Drougas, Klawitter and Healey all completed 2-0 days with wins in singles action. Krimbill won 7-6, 6-4 at No. 1 over Sprinkel, while Drougas earned a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 2 over Golbraith. Klawitter won 6-2, 6-4 at No. 3, and Healey won 6-2, 6-3 at No. 6.
Freshman James Fojtasek (Cypress, Texas/Cypress Woods) earned the eighth point for the Spartans with a 6-1, 6-2 at No. 5.
The Spartans conclude the regular season on Saturday, April 19, against Earlham College (Ind.) for Seniors' Day at 3:00 p.m. at Carlton Courts.
